A new Action Group on Sustainability & Ethics in ErUM-Data has grown out of the recent ErUM-Data Workshop „Shaping the Digital Future of ErUM Research: Sustainability & Ethics“. The group complements ongoing activities within the ErUM-Data-Community and the ErUM-Data-Hub,
which will continue to organise larger initiatives such as workshops, schools, and publications. We warmly welcome everyone in the ErUM-community who would like to join and contribute to our activities. 

Our Focus & Goal

Our focus is on short-term, practical measures that require no extra funding. In particular, we want to strengthen communication strategies and awareness, understand our place in the bigger picture, and explore how to broaden the adoption of already well-known solutions. We believe that facts alone are not enough: effective framing and addressing values within our own groups, experiments, and communities are essential.

The Action Group meets once a month on the last Friday at 11:00 am for joint updates (The current Zoom link and meeting dates can be found here). In between, members take initiative on individual tasks, with quick discussions possible via Mattermost. Everyone in the ErUM community is very welcome to join the meetings. Ongoing documentation and activities can be found here: Action Group Wiki. There is no fixed workload if you would like to join the group. Tasks will be continuously defined, and you can choose to contribute in implementation.

First steps include (among other others):  A Podcast episode; creating a slide deck “where to start?“ (for the ErUM community, to be presented by the Action Group to various groups)
